Rounding off our lookback at some of the best Para dancers of the last 12 months, here are the women who shone brightly:

Karlygash Tynabekova, Kazakhstan

The queen of freestyle gave another memorable performance this year.

Upon winning a breakthrough gold at the 2017 World Championships, Tynabekova tested a new routine in the women’s freestyle class 1. Her Cleopatra-inspired choreography won her the gold at June’s Polish Open and left many wondering if she will stick with that performance at the 2019 Worlds.

Helena Kasicka, Slovakia

Kasicka is back, and she could challenge Tynabekova for her throne in 2019.

The Slovakian had not competed at a World Para Dance Sport event since winning a trio of titles at the 2016 European Championships.

But two years later, the Slovakian was back on the dance floor, performing singles instead of combi at her home World Cup in Kosice. A month later, she won the women’s single freestyle 1.

Olena Chynka, Ukraine

The queen of women’s singles remains Chynka. The Ukrainian has not lost a singles competition (women’s freestyle and standard 2) since the 2016 European Championships. Her victories at the 2018 edition in Lomianki, Poland, extended her winning streak to 10.
